I’m not going to lie. One of the first CDs I’ve purchased was Britney Spear’s debut album back in the day, I believe in my middle school years. She’s probably not what I would call a talented singer, but one could definitely argue that she did have other qualities that catapulted her to stardom. Her songs in that album — granted were not written by her — were pure pop goodness. I never thought too much about them until I listened to this cover of “…Baby One More Time” by Tove Styrke, and her rendition made me reevaluate the song itself. No wonder it was a hit single. I would say Tove Styrke succeeded in making the song her own in some way, very much different from the original mix with its brooding, dark, and edgy tone.
